My name is Hank Cooper and I opened a Barbizon Modeling School franchise in Vancouver, Canada in the summer of 1990. I opened it with my wife who loved the industry, but I wasn't ever comfortable with the deceptive practices that was involved with the recruitment process. Nevertheless we carried on and after year 3 we got into modeling conventions.
If the school tuition business wasn't bad enough the convention aspect drove it over the edge of morality. Modeling agencies got involved, and schools sent there students that already spent a fortune on classes that taught how to apply makeup. Then asked for $3500 bucks for another convention to be seen by agents from around the world. I attended many of these conventions, they were at flashy NY or LA hotels. It was just one, or should I say two, big parties and flashy cameras and make believe agents.
I finally got out of the business before the turn of the millennium and have a quiet life at the far end of Canada creating websites, so I thought I would spend some time making a site for anyone thinking of getting into a modeling school or convention or even a modeling agency. there should be something of interest here for you and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I will respond to all inquiries or comments. Thanks for looking and have a good day!Share
