I owned a Barbizon modeling school franchise in Vancouver BC for 8 years until I couldn't take it anymore. I made more money than ever with the concept of how to be a model, but doing so was not good for my peace of mind. I worked extensively during the conventions and model auditions in NY and LA with the John Robert Powers franchisees as well as John Casablancas centers. The franchise owners only want their royalties and are always pressuring the franchise owner to get more enrollments which ends up making you accept models who have no potential at all in print or runway situations. In the old days all schools marketed as a finishing school which just taught you how to be a lady and was the fashionable thing to do for your daughter at the time.
But now the times have changed and that has all gone out the window for more aggressive selling techniques and now everyone is model material in their eyes and anything that needs to be said will be to get the sale.Share
In the weeks to come we will be having a forum for people to voice their experiences with the top modeling schools so we can share our stories in the hope of a better industry in the future.
